Welcome
Dig Manchester is a cultural and social regeneration archaeological project, which has inspired thousands of people to get involved in archaeology and local heritage within their area.
With support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Manchester City Council, the University of Manchester, and contributions from local business organisations, it has provided people with a sense of identity and community working together.
It has provided a chance to learn more and appreciate new experiences from active participation - especially schools and disadvantaged groups - in uncovering the history of their area.
There have been four digs over three years, with professional archaeologists working alongside everyone from toddlers and young people to older volunteers.
The Lottery money was used across the whole project from employing archaeologists to preparing the grounds, conducting site feasibility studies, educational officers, employing local artists, and equipment for family weekends providing greater public awareness.
